The Highland Griffith Chamber of Commerce will begin 2024 with new leadership and officers on its Board of Directors, according to a release. New board members include: Bryce Carden, Members Source Credit Union, and Benjamin Tomera, Tomera Media Production.

The new year also brings changes in the Board’s officers. Dan Perez, of Edward Jones, takes the office of Board Chair succeeding Ann Coglianese, Region ATA. The other Executive Board officers for 2024 include Susan Stammis, First Financial Bank, Vice Chair, Jane Powers-Schiesser, Humane Indiana, as Secretary, and Rebecca Alvarez, Fair Haven Rape Crisis Center, as Treasurer, the release said. Executive Director Lance Ryskamp will begin his second full year in his newly retitled position of Chamber President/CEO.

Northwest Health-Porter recently honored Makenzie Marx as the recipient of the DAISY award for exceptional nursing and Amber Jordan, a patient care technician, of the PETALS award for outstanding support professionals, a release said.

Marx received a compilation of glowing nominations from patients and their family members, the release said. Jordan was nominated by an appreciative co-worker who shared that she is one of the best aides that she has ever worked with, the release said.

DAISY award recognitions honor the remarkable work nurses do every day — wherever they practice, in whatever role they serve throughout their entire careers, the release said. The PETALS award honors non-nursing professionals for their exceptional skills and support.

Three professionals were recently hired as staff accountants at CPAs CLH & Consultants, Michigan City.

Jordan Sheets, Victor Hernandez and Ryan Cetnar recently joined the firm, a release said. In their new roles, the trio will be working with clients on a range of engagements, including tax preparation and planning, business accounting, and a variety of other accounting services CLH offers, the release said.

Jordan Sheets graduated from Valparaiso University in 2023 as Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Victor Hernandez joined CLH in 2023 after completing an internship and graduated from Purdue University Northwest (PNW) with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Ryan Cetnar joined CLH in 2023; he earned his undergraduate degree from Purdue Northwest and is currently enrolled in a graduate school program.

Applications for the Porter County Citizen’s Advisory Committee are now available, a release said.

The Recycling and Waste Reduction District of Porter County Board of Directors appoints seven citizens annually to the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) during the first meeting of the year.

The CAC plays a crucial role in offering recommendations and providing feedback to board members regarding waste reduction, recycling services, sustainability initiatives, educational events and a variety of other topics. Porter County residents from the Solid Waste industry and individuals who are passionate about making a positive environmental impact are encouraged to submit their applications, a release said.

Interested applicants must complete a brief form that includes their educational and work background. This form can be accessed through PorterCountyRecycling.org. The deadline for applications is 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 5, the release said. Applications can be submitted online or obtained in person at 155 Indiana Ave, Suite 314, Valparaiso. Call 219-465-3694.

The Crown Point Rotary Club announced that Chuck Roberts, CEO of Lakeshore Public Media, will be the guest speaker at the 12:10 p.m. Jan. 3 Crown Point Rotary meeting at Youche Country Club, 2301 W. 129th Place, Crown Point.

All six Indiana Franciscan Health Family Birth Centers were awarded INspire Hospital of Distinction awards by the Indiana Hospital Association in partnership with Gov. Eric Holcomb and Indiana State Health Commissioner Dr. Lindsay Weaver, according to a release.

The Family Birth Centers in Crown Point, Dyer, Indianapolis, Lafayette, Michigan City and Mooresville all received the honor, the release said.

INspire, funded by the Indiana Department of Health’s Safety Protecting Indiana’s Newborns (Safety PIN) grant, was developed to implement the delivery of best practice care for Hoosier moms and babies and to recognize hospitals for excellence in addressing key drivers of infant and maternal health, the release said.
