When: Coatesville school board meeting, Oct. 10.

What happened: During the operations committee meeting preceding the school board meeting, Richard Oliver, information technology director, presented a technology update and overview.

Background: Oliver is new to the district this school year. His presentation covered technology staff, end user devices, network issues, servers and storage, technology integration systems, copiers and cyber security. He has studied the state of district technology and presented several recommendations.

Why it’s important: Recommendations include implementing an inventory management system along with a five-year replacement cycle for the 7,500 end user devices in the district inventory. There are 19 physical servers and 54 virtual servers supported by one staff member, plus there are 200 network devices supported by one person.

Quotable: Vice President Brandon Rhone was impressed by the thoroughness of the presentation. “In my time on this board, this is the most comprehensive technology report I’ve seen. This was deep in the weeds of what is working, what isn’t working; then there is a process to address what isn’t working,” he said.

Other happenings: With a recommendation from the finance committee, the board approved a contract with Anthony Rybarczyk as the district’s new assistant superintendent.

The cost: Rybarczyk’s salary will be $128,000 per year.
