From large grocery stores to local restaurants, many establishments helped Jackson County see more than $20 million in on-premises liquor sales in 2023. According to data from the Michigan Liquor Control Commission, Jackson County had $23,169,813 in liquor sales in 2023, including liquor sales from retail stores and bars.

As far as bars and restaurants go, Knight’s Steakhouse & Grill in Jackson topped the list with $147,909 in liquor sales, according to data from the Michigan Liquor Control Commission. This is slightly more than its sales from 2022, which was $144,797.

As the days begin to get longer, and the weather hopefully gets warmer, food trucks are starting to make more frequent stops around Jackson County.
Whether you’re looking to try some barbecue, or something a little more unique, there are plenty food trucks to grab a meal at. Here are five great food trucks to try in the Jackson County area.

Former Jackson school will continue its new role in helping Jackson’s homeless population
The former T.A. Wilson school building has been sold to a nonprofit group that will continue to use it as a homeless shelter.
In its Tuesday, March 19 meeting, the Jackson City Council voted 5-1 to sell the building at 310 W. Morrell St., to Jackson nonprofit Residents in Action for $150,000. The city purchased the property from Jackson Public Schools in March 2023 for $150,000, and has been utilizing the building’s annex as a homeless shelter since November, under the management of Residents in Action.
The council had considered proposals from Residents in Action, 2nd Chance 4 All and a collaboration from the Jackson Interfaith Shelter, MyPlace, Inc., Welcome Home Organization and Altering Outcomes, for purchase of the property to continue homeless assistance at the site.

Come hungry because the portions are huge at Kimmie K’s Cafe
Customers don’t leave hungry when they eat at Kimmie K’s Cafe in Michigan Center.
The cafe has been open in the Jackson area for nearly 14 years and, while its location and restaurant name have changed during that time, owner Kim Taylor has strived to maintain its laid-back atmosphere and homecooked meals, waitress Jennifer Weeks said.
The restaurant is known for breakfast and lunch, with common menu items including omelets, French toast, breakfast burritos, sandwiches, burgers, salads and cinnamon rolls.

Try special menu items from these 25 eateries during Jackson County Restaurant Week
Those interested in trying a wide variety of Jackson cuisine will have a chance during an inaugural event hosted by Experience Jackson.
Jackson County’s official tourism bureau will host its first Jackson County Restaurant Week, which begins Monday, April 8 and runs through Friday, April 12. During the week, patrons are encouraged to try special menu items from 25 area food establishments.
“The variety of restaurants participating highlights the current food scene,” Experience Jackson Marketing & Development Manager Rachel Buchanan said. “With three food trucks, two bakeries and a handful of brick-and-mortar restaurants, there are plenty of unique options to choose from.”

Golumbki just like mom used to make can be found at Kibby Cobb Liquor & Deli
When its golumbki day at Kibby Cobb Liquor and Deli, owner Adam Cyrocki usually begins his day in the kitchen at 6 a.m.
It’s a whole day of work creating the traditional Polish dish, but it’s all worth it when customers rush in to get it. Cyrocki has been making golumbki his whole life, including at his parent’s former restaurant, Viking Steak House, where they decided to add it to the menu one day, he said.
“It was crazy, people were just knocking down the door and glass, and we started doing them regularly,” Cyrocki said.
