Qualcomm has unveiled its latest mobile processor, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, designed to bring flagship-level features and performance to mid-range smartphones. The chipset boasts significant improvements in CPU and GPU performance and power efficiency and introduces on-device AI capabilities to the Snapdragon 7 series for the first time.

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 promises a 15% boost in CPU performance and up to 45% better GPU performance than its predecessor, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2, while delivering a 5% reduction in power consumption.

Built on a 4 nm process technology, the processor features a prime Cortex-X4 core clocked at 2.8 GHz, four performance cores at 2.6 GHz, and three efficiency cores at 1.9 GHz.

It also features a Qualcomm Hexagon NPU for AI tasks and an Adreno GPU capable of driving up to 4K resolution displays at 60Hz or QHD+ resolution screens at 120Hz. The chipset supports up to 24 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage, ensuring smooth multitasking and fast data access.

A standout feature of the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is its support for on-device generative AI experiences. The chipset is compatible with various large language models (LLMs) and large vision models (LVMs), such as Baichuan-7B, Llama 2, Gemini Nano, and Zhipu ChatGLM. This enables mid-range smartphones to offer advanced AI features like virtual assistants, image generation, and multi-language translation and transcription.

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is the first 7-series chip to support Wi-Fi 7 with the FastConnect 7800 mobile connectivity system, providing users with ultra-fast internet speeds. The integrated Snapdragon X63 5G modem supports 3GPP Release 17 5G, with downlink speeds of up to 4.2 Gbps.

The chipset features a Game Post Processing Accelerator for enhanced visual effects and the Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0, which can double the frame rate without compromising power efficiency. It also has the Spectra 18-bit Triple Cognitive ISP, which supports up to 200MP sensors and offers advanced features like semantic segmentation and low-light vision.

Chris Patrick, senior vice president and general manager of mobile handsets at Qualcomm Technologies, expressed confidence in the chipset’s capabilities, stating, “Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is packed with support for incredible on-device generative AI features and provides incredible performance and power efficiency while bringing Wi-Fi 7 to the Snapdragon 7 Series for the first time.”

Several smartphone manufacturers have partnered with Qualcomm to launch devices powered by the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3. OnePlus, Realme, and Sharp are expected to be among the first to introduce smartphones featuring the new chipset in the coming months. OnePlus’ Nord CE 3, which is scheduled to launch in India on April 3, is expected to be one of the first Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3-powered smartphones.
