Gautam Adani shares his meeting with Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon

Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon is on a visit to India. The CEO of the smartphone chip giant met Gautam Adani, head of the Adani Group. The two are reported to have discussed India’s potential in artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and the future of transportation. “Great meeting with Qualcomm CEO @cristianoamon & his leaders! Inspiring to hear his vision for semiconductors, AI, mobility, edge appliances and much more across different markets.Exciting to hear about his plans and commitment to India’s potential!,” Adani said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
No details of any planned partnership between Qualcomm and Adani Group was indicated in the post. During spectrum auction 2022, Adani group bought a small quantity of 5G spectrum for private captive network deployment in ports, logistics and power generation among others. Adani is also building data centres at multiple locations.
Qualcomm is a major player in designing and manufacturing semiconductors, essential components for smartphones and electronics. Adani’s Group, meanwhile, has ventured into areas like private 5G networks and data center construction. This meeting suggests an exploration of how their expertise can complement each other in India’s developing tech landscape.
Qualcomm to open new centre in India
Amon is scheduled to inaugurate a new design center in Chennai on March 14. The new centre, which specialises in wireless connectivity solutions with a focus on innovations that complement Wi-Fi technologies and is expected to create jobs for up to 1,600 skilled professionals in the city.
India gets three semiconductor facilities
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today virtually laid the foundation stone of three semiconductor facilities of about Rs1.25 lakh crore. These include two in Gujarat and one in Assam. “This is a historic day as we are taking a strong step towards a bright future,” Modi said. The three semiconductor projects launched today (March 13) include India’s first Fab facility at Dholera in Gujarat, Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility at Sanand in the state, and an OSAT facility in Morigaon, Assam.
The ‘Made in India’ semiconductor chips will take the country towards self-reliance and modernity, he said. “When India commits, India delivers and democracy also delivers,” Modi said on the promise to make the country a semiconductor manufacturing hub.
