To develop a 5G-ready workforce in India, Swedish telecom equipment maker Ericsson and the Department of Telecom (DoT) have agreed to offer access to Ericsson’s online learning platform to 10,000 students across 100 institutes with 5G labs.
The partnership will see Ericsson open its “Ericsson Educate – 21st Century Technologies Programme” to students and faculty at the 100 DoT-established 5G use case labs nationwide.Students will gain access to digital courses covering cutting-edge technologies like 5G, AI, IoT, Machine Learning and more at no cost.
An MoU was signed between A Robert J Ravi, CEO of Telecom Centres of Excellence India (TCOE) and DoT Deputy Director General, and Nitin Bansal, Managing Director of Ericsson India, to cement the collaboration.
“I am confident that the 5G Labs will help us create new 5G use cases for the country,” said Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Communications, Electronics & IT and Railways. “We are delighted to partner with Ericsson to build competencies in emerging technologies and prepare students to be 5G-ready to achieve the vision of Digital India.”
The tie-up aims to bridge the skills gap and develop a pool of 5G talent to drive India’s digital transformation across sectors. Students will access learning resources drawing from Ericsson’s 145-year telecom expertise.
“Access to 5G tech courses will enable students to develop use cases addressing local needs, enhance productivity and accelerate digitalization efforts,” said Nitin Bansal, highlighting the collaboration’s significance towards realizing the government’s Digital India vision.
For Ericsson, which has operated in India since 1903, the partnership underscores its commitment to meaningful connectivity supporting societal needs like education beyond commercial offerings.
The collaboration comes as India gears up to unlock 5G’s potential through recently launched services. Building a skilled workforce is crucial to driving 5G proliferation and monetising use cases across industries
