VIENNA – Two Wood County residents were found dead Friday afternoon and the suspect in their murders died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound early Saturday morning in Ohio, according to a release from the Vienna Police Department.

The investigation remains open and the identity of the suspect has not been released pending notification of family, the release said.

Officers were dispatched around 4:40 p.m. Friday to 1003 38th St. in Vienna after a family member found two people there who apparently died from gunshot wounds, the release said. Investigators identified the deceased as Thomas J. Platt, 45, of Parkersburg and Christy L. Roseberry, 43, of Vienna.

The release said the department processed the scene and gathered evidence with the assistance of the Wood County Prosecutor’s Office and the Wood County Coroner’s Office. The bodies of Platt and Roseberry were transported to the Office of the West Virginia Medical Examiner for autopsies.

Investigators gathering information and interviewing witnesses identified a suspect, the release said, then notified surrounding law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for that individual.

U.S. Marshals were contacted and quickly arrived to assist in the search, the release said. With information collected, investigators were able to secure an arrest warrant for the suspect on a charge of first-degree murder.

The suspect was located at the Comfort Inn in Bellefontaine, Ohio, about two-and-a-half hours away north of Springfield, the release said. U.S. Marshals coordinated with local authorities there to execute the warrant around 2:15 a.m. today.

Authorities attempted to contact the suspect inside a hotel room when they heard what they believed to be a single gunshot, the release said. It was quickly discovered that the suspect apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, it said.

Vienna Police were assisted by multiple agencies, including the Parkersburg, Williamstown and Belpre police departments, the Wood and Washington County sheriff’s offices, the West Virginia State Police and authorities from Bellefontaine.
