Crunch Rolls made in Westfield are now available at every military base around the globe. The owners of the factory want to expand their product reach even further.
During Tuesday’s Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency meeting, Original Crunch Roll Factory LLC in Westfield was approved for a $400,000 loan. Of that amount, $225,000 will be for new equipment and $175,000 will be for working capital.
Before the county IDA approved the loan, Mark and Zachary Bohn discussed their future plans.
Mark Bohn said they started the Crunch Roll factory in Westfield in 2016. Since then, their product has grown.
“We’re pretty proud of what we’ve built and we want to take it to the next level,” he said.
They’re looking at a $1.5 million expansion, which will allow them to create more products as well as manufacture mini-crunch rolls.
Zachary Bohn said their product is currently available on select grocery stores, retail businesses, college campuses, and amusement parks, mostly in the northeastern United States. It’s also available on Royal Caribbean Cruise lines, as well as every military base, not just in the United States, but around the world.
They have an opportunity to sell their product in some national retailers, but those companies require additional products before they will sell Crunch Rolls.
“There are some national chains that we won’t be able to meet their needs if we don’t have this equipment. With this, we’ll be able to open the doors and continue our growth across the country,” Zachary Bohn said.
The names of national chains were not identified. Mark Bohn said they have a new partnership with a national distributor they’re working with to further their product reach.
Crunch Roll snack food and appetizers are sold frozen and then heated when ready to eat. Product offerings include Buffalo style chicken, macaroni and cheese, banana pepper, steak and cheese, pepperoni pizza, breakfast scrambled egg with sausage, and corned beef Reuben.
“Being in the frozen food arena, it’s sometimes very expensive to move goods around the world. With this relationship (of the new distributor), it makes it much easier,” Mark Bohn said.
Crunch Factory, which makes the rolls, employs 38 people in Westfield. With the expansion, another eight jobs are expected to be created.
County Executive PJ Wendel toured Crunch Factory earlier this year and expressed his support for the expansion. “This investment is an investment, not only for Mark and Zach and this company, but it’s an investment for this county,” he said.
When the business opened in 2016, the county IDA approved Original Crunch Roll Factory with a $585,000 loan. County IDA Director Mark Geise said they have been making payments and have about $200,000 remaining. The new loan would be a 4% interest rate.
The county IDA Board of Directors unanimously approved the loan.
IDA Board Chairman Gary Henry thanked Mark and Zachary Bohn for their investment. “We’re thankful that you picked our county to grow your business and we’re glad to be a part of it,” he said.
Mark Bohn said they plan on starting their expansion Jan. 1.
