LA Tech mourns the loss of stabbing victim Annie Richardson | News

RUSTON, La. – One of the four victims stabbed Monday morning on the Louisiana Tech campus has died. 

 

University President Les Guice announced the death of Annie Richardson Tuesday night in a news release. 

 

“My prayers are with Annie’s husband Peter, the entire Richardson family, and all who called Annie a friend,” Guice said. “Our Tech family will feel the pain of this incident for some time but we are fortunate to have such a caring community to rely upon as we grieve together.”

 

Richardson was a Louisiana artist who primarily works in mixed media on canvas, according to her website. After studying at various institutions including Newcomb College in New Orleans and the Sarah Lawrence College of Art in Lacoste, France, she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Colorado in Boulder. She exhibited her works widely around the state and currently lived in Ruston.

 

Jacoby Johnson, 23, the man accused of stabbing Richardson, now faces a charge of second-degree murder. Johnson was charged Monday with four counts of attempted second-degree murder. 

 

Authorities said Johnson stabbed Richardson and Cynthia Woodard, a retired Lincoln Parish judge, as they and two others left the Lambright Sports and Wellness Center. 

 

Tech freshman Colin Campbell, of Minden, heard the screams coming from the center, saw Richardson and Woodard and stopped to offer help. He put both in his pickup truck and headed to the hospital. 

 

He said Richardson suffered a wound to her throat and collapsed in his back seat as he got to the hospital. She was aiflifted to a Shreveport hospital. 

 

Two of the other three victims were also treated at a Ruston hospital before transport to Shreveport. The fourth victim declined treatment. 

 

Police said Johnson’s attack on the women was random. 

 

The University’s Counseling Services are available to students individually and in a group setting. Appointments can be made by visiting Keeny Hall 310, calling 318.257.2488, or visiting latech.edu/counseling-services/. Group counseling sessions will be held daily at 3 p.m. for the remainder of the week.

 

A campus blood drive benefitting the victims is happening Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Center. Parking will be available in front of the Ropp Center for members of the Ruston community wishing to donate.
