Patna: More than 350 students of IIT-Patna learned the various aspects of quantum technology at the three-day workshop on ‘Quantum quake’ organized by the institute in collaboration with IBM Quantum. The workshop concluded on Friday.Speaking as the chief guest at the valedictory function, IIT-Tirupati’s senior faculty P C Deshmukh highlighted the increasing applications of quantum technology in different fields. “Quantum technology is already on our doorstep, and it is going to replace many of our modern technologies soon. The quantum technology will now be more efficient, faster and secure by using the fundamental nature of quantum physics,” he added.IIT-Patna director T N Singh said quantum deals with the themes like quantum computation, quantum sensing, quantum communication and security and artificial intelligence. He said the government of India has decided to promote quantum technology through ‘National Quantum Mission’. “The union cabinet has already approved Rs 6,003 crore for developing quantum technology in the country. The workshop is a major step aligned to this national quantum mission,” Singh said.IIT-Patna’s physics department teacher and workshop convener Utpal Roy said the workshop was the first initiative of its type aimed at apprising the students with the vast possibilities of quantum technology in the modern era. “The workshop will nurture quantum technology ecosystem across the academia and industries in the state. Besides, it will also pave the way for developing IIT-Patna as one of the major players in the race for quantum technology,” Roy said.Prominent among those who addressed the workshop included IIT-Patna’s academic dean A K Thakur, physics department head N K Nishchal, besides Sanjana Kumari, Maria Gragera Garces and Shraddha Aangiras from IBM.During the workshop, students enthusiastically participated in various events, including hands-on IBM quantum sessions, quizzes, computing exercises and lectures by experts.

Tata Technologies in talks with Morgan Stanley, US funds for IPO investments

Tata Technologies, a part of the Tata Group conglomerate, is in discussions with Morgan Stanley Investment Management, Blackrock, and U.S. hedge funds for its initial public offering (IPO) at a valuation of $2.5 billion. The company, which provides engineering services for the auto and aerospace sectors, is holding talks with several asset managers for possible participation in the IPO.
