Crossing Creeks Country Club in Longview expects to open its club house before the end of the year.

The former Oak Forest Country Club closed in 2021 following a fire at the club house. Taylor Carter and his business purchased the club — which includes the golf course, a pool, a driving range, pickleball and tennis courts — in 2022. Renovations have been underway since then, with some portions of the improvements at the country club already done.i

Carter said plans are for the club house to have a soft opening next month, followed by the official opening n late November or early December.

The clubhouse facilities will include a restaurant — currently called the 19th Hole — lounge and pro shop.

“We’re really excited about it,” Carter said.

The restaurant will be led by local chef Chris Tomboni.

He and his wife, Nan, have for more than eight years operated Tomboni’s on Judson Road. They closed the restaurant earlier this summer and transitioned to serving their wood-fired pizzas out of their food truck.

They decided to close entirely when the opportunity arose for Chris Tomboni to be chef at Crossing Creeks. Operating the food truck was a lot of work without the staff they had in the full restaurant, Nan Tomboni said. Oct. 21 is their last day.

“We will miss them,” Nan Tomboni said of their customers. “Our customers have been awesome.”

Children’s boutique

Snuggle Puppy Children’s Boutique is open for a limited time in downtown Longview, at 813 E. Methvin St, in an area known as The Junction.

Courtney and Shane Goswick recently renovated a former hotel across the street from the store into an Airbnb. They own other buildings there as well and opened the temporary store for the sole purpose of liquidating a children’s boutique they bought from a woman who was closing her business. Prices decrease each week, and they’re currently 40% off what’s on the tag.

“This is a temporary, pop-up liquidation store,” Courtney Goswick said.

The goal is to be fully liquidated by Dec. 31. Regardless, the store will not be open after that.

Snuggle Puppy is named for a children’s book she read to her children when they were little.

The store features boys’ and girls’ clothing in sizes preemie to 6/7, smocked clothing and brands such as Kicee Pants, Mustard Pie, Giggle Moon, Magnolia Baby, Kissy Kissy and Mudpie. Goswick said the store also has newborn gifts, a large assortment of children’s books, seasonal clothing and stocking stuffers.

The store is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
