iQOO 12 is here with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, better FunTouch OS 14 performance, and a 64MP periscope telephoto camera. How does it fare in real life? Here are our first impressions.

In the world of Android smartphones, the upcoming year will be going to be the premium phones with the top-notch performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. And the launch of the iQOO 12 marks the dawn of this new trend. iQOO came up with their latest flagship in India – the iQOO 12 which promises to make some crucial changes from its predecessor. How does it fare in real life? Here is everything in our first impressions.

iQOO 12: Design and Display

Just like its predecessors, the iQOO 12 can be seen with the branding of BMW. However, it is subtle in comparison to the previous gen iQOO 11. It has a fine BMW-branding line at the bottom right along with iQOO. The enamel glass back continues to bring its premium vibes. The camera module has a silver steel ring around it to make the design interesting.

It features a 6.78-inch 1.5K LTPO AMOLED display with up to 144Hz refresh rate and up to 3000 nits peak brightness. The multimedia experience with the iQOO 12 seems as good as it seems on paper as it is bright and rich in colours.

It is the highlight of the phone! The iQOO 12 runs on the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. For day-to-day usage, it works effortlessly. However, for gaming and heavy usage, the iQOO 12 still needs to prove its power in the long-term review. It uses Android 14 with Funtouch OS 14 on top with three years of Android updates and four years of security updates.

What’s exciting part is that the latest FunTouch OS 14 removes some unnecessary apps that have been removed, the phone still comes with pre-installed iQOO apps, Facebook, GPay, Netflix, PhonePe, Snapchat, and others.

The iQOO 12 boasts a triple-camera arrangement at the rear, comprising a 50MP primary camera featuring PDAF and OIS, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 64MP periscope telephoto camera equipped with 3x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom.

In well-lit conditions, such as daylight, the smartphone excels at capturing images with excellent detail and accurate colours. What I liked the most is its portrait photography as it exhibit good results, showcasing effective edge detection and a pleasing background blur effect. The iQOO 12 allows you to customize the blur effect, providing greater control over image aesthetics. However, for a detailed photography experience, we will need to spend more time with it.

iQOO 12 First Impressions

It is not just about specs and features, it is about the right pricing. Just for a recall, the iQOO 11 was launched at a starting price of Rs. 59,999. To a surprise, the iQOO 12 comes at a price of just Rs. 52,999 for 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. Even at a reduced price, the iQOO 12 comes with some essential upgrades and changes. Apart from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the addition of 100x zoom and better UI surely makes it worth buying. But how does it perform? It will be seen in the full long-term review.

Not just that! In the coming months, the OnePlus 12 is all set to hit the Indian market which is tipped to be the top alternative to the iQOO 12.
