DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Hannah Linthacum, a Jefferson City High School graduate, made a pair of free throws with just over a minute left Friday to give the Missouri Tigers a one-point lead, and the Tigers were able to hold onto the advantage the rest of the way and picked up a 66-65 victory against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles in the Daytona Beach Classic.
The Golden Eagles held a 65-61 lead with just over two minutes left in the game, but Abby Feit was able to cut the deficit to one point with a right-wing 3-pointer with 1:27 left.
Following a missed 3 by Tennessee Tech, Linthacum secured the defensive rebound and was sent to the line for two to give the Tigers the lead.
The Golden Eagles last chance ended with a Peyton Carter missed jumper as time winded down.
Missouri started the contest fast and scored the first seven points of the game.
The Tigers led by as many as eight points at 14-6 in the first quarter, but Tennessee Tech closed the period on a 6-0 run to trail just 16-15.
There was five lead changes in the second quarter, but the Golden Eagles were able to cling to a slim 31-30 advantage at the half.
Missouri went on a 7-0 early in the third to take a 37-33 lead and led by as many as six at 43-37 midway through the quarter, but Tennessee Tech closed the quarter on an 11-4 run to take a 48-47 lead to the fourth.
Grace Slaughter led Missouri with 18 points on a perfect 8-for-8 shooting night, Dembele finished with 16 points and five assists, Hayley Frank added 10 points, Hannah Linthacum finished with four points and six rebounds in 10 minutes and Sarah Linthacum (Jefferson City High School) had two points in her six minutes of game action.
The Tigers shot 22-for-43 (51 percent) from the field, 6-for-14 (43 percent) from 3-point range and made 16-of-18 (89 percent) of their free throws.
Tennessee Tech (0-4) was led by Maaliya Owens and Reghan Grimes with 13 points each, and Reagan Hurst and Jenni Sullivan each added 12.
Missouri (5-1) will close out the Daytona Beach Classic at 4:45 p.m. today against Kent State.
