In a post shared on micro-blogging site X (earlier Twitter), Android tipster AssembleDebug revealed that he first spotted the new feature within the latest Google Search app for Android.

The rumoured Short Video filter is reportedly placed beside the Images filter above the search result space. This new feature is expected to index and collate all short video content available from various platforms on the internet.

Currently, if users have to search for short videos, they have to rely on inputting keywords like ‘Instagram’ or ‘TikTok’ along with their query to see them while looking for them in the ‘Video’ search filter.

According to a report by Android Police, the option was visible only to limited number of accounts. Once selected, the Short Videos filter showed content in portrait-orientation and a two-column layout.

The report noted that the videos were shown from multiple platforms including YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram. The filter also eliminated the need to add keywords like Reels, Shorts, or TikTok to the search query, the report added.

Google has been reportedly testing a carousel to aggregate content from TikTok and Instagram since 2020. The company also said to have started indexing Instagram and TikTok videos in 2021. If Google adds this filter to its Search platform it will make short videos more easily accessible to users.

As per Fit Small Business’ January data, around 92% of all searches globally go through Google’s Search platform. Another survey by Yaguara.co revealed that 73% of consumers actually prefer short-form videos when looking for products or services.
